I really try to stay away from politics, as far too many blogs out there seem to be comprised of nothing but. However, sometimes they are just so cute when they are new:
... Clark, the newest Democratic presidential candidate, gave supporters one of the first glimpses into his views on technology."I still believe in e=mc˛, but I can't believe that in all of human history, we'll never ever be able to go beyond the speed of light to reach where we want to go," said Clark. "I happen to believe that mankind can do it.
"Some goals may take a lifetime to reach," he said.
Or longer. Come on, Clarksie! Yes, it may have worked for JFK back in the '60's, but shouldn't you pick something a little more close to home to fixate on? Sure, faster-than-light travel would be great, but what about... Oh, I don't know, over population? Global warming? Over-dependence on fossil-fuels? Poverty? Surely some of those far less challenging efforts might be worthy of some attention?
Gotta get this guy on the phone for my sci-fi and fantasy radio show!
LOL. Yeah, though I like Clark in general. I get a good vibe from him, unlike Dean who gives me a sense of dread each time I see him. I fear Clark could beat Bush but won't get the chance to run against him, but Dean can't, yet will be the Dem. candidate. So a Bush win in '04!
But to draw closer to home on your post, I think the Clark campaign is having a bit of an identity crises. This man was "drafted" into the race because he wasn't a politician and now everyone is pressuring him to be a better politician and he is reasonably confused. So all these people are probably whispering in his ear, "this is what a successful politician does..." then going on to say all kinds of wild things. The reality is, what most successful politicians do is anathema to who Clark is. That's why he's never been a politician but has lived a life of public service (albeit in the military - eck). I think if he has the guts to stick to his truth he will develop loyal followers.

I'm happy to have found your site out of all this! Hard to find leftist bloggers in this sea of conservatisim that now is Bloggerdom!

Posted by: Evo on October 10, 2003 05:24 PMThat's part of the problem. People vote based on their 'vibes.' That is probably the worst way possible to make any decision. FDR was voted based om the vibes he emanated, but he turned out not only to be completely ignorant of economics, but a four-term tyrant who kept us in a depression for 12 years, and only got us out by sacrificing thousands of lives on the battlefield. Some great president. Unfortunately people still feel his vibes from the darkest circle of hell he currently occupies (I'm an atheist, but hey, it's wishful thinking).
But as for Clark, this just shows that he is really a Republican at heart. Forget real problems, invent some grand scheme like Star Wars and propose massive budget deficits to fund it. I wonder how many billions will be spent until he decides that in fact Einstein actually knew more than he on this subject. But a politician admitting that anyone knows more than they do? Look for the moon setting in the east and hell's denizens escaping to Florida for the winter freeze down below first.
