Artemisia's Pain Formula

This is a wonderful recipie formulated by Jennie Blechman, an outstanding herbalist from Pagosa Springs, Colorado. I discovered the anti-inflammatory and pain releving properties of this remedy on a recent ski trip. I'll leave the rest to your imagination!

Out of a beginner's curiosity. The recipe you posted for Artemisia's Pain Formula. Is it made up of essential oils? or as I'm beginning to think alcohol based tinctures? and those 30-90 drops.. are they taken internally or rubbed into the painful area, ie knuckles, knees etc.? Also, if one doesn't or can't (due to climate conditions and/or size of garden) grow all the plants mentioned, is there a way of either getting the tinctures separately. For instance, I've never seen Piscidia erythrina for sale (not to say it isn't, I've also not gone through your website with a fine tooth comb yet :-) Anyways.. any clarifications to my questions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Well that'll teach me to be a bit more descriptive in my writings! Sorry for the confusion, Ana.

This is not an essential oils formula. In fact, I'm not so sure you can distill essential oils from any of these botanicals. This recipe is for prepared tinctures of each plant and is designed to be taken internally.

Chances are, one cannot grow all of the plants. Kava (Piper mythesticum) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) are tropical plants. Others are more easy to cultivate... some I have no idea. My suggestion: buy these tinctures from a reputable source pre-made. I encourage medicine making, but learning to extract good quality tinctures takes time, skill and practice.

None of the ingredients I have listed are too terribly exotic, though we'll probably wind up losing Kava, and it's difficult to find real Skullcap these days...
